"Monument" | Limited Edition | Dye-Sublimation print on Aluminum
"Monument"
Black & White Landscape Photograph – Cairo, Egypt
48” x 72” Archival dye-sublimation on brushed aluminum
Limited Edition of 10 | Signed and numbered by Justin Shekoski
In Monument, time is rendered still. The photograph captures a stretch of Cairo’s ancient terrain in black and white—ruins worn down to skeletal elegance, and two distant camel riders traversing the silence like a memory in motion. Their presence feels incidental, almost spectral, as if humanity were simply passing through something older and far larger than itself.
Devoid of color, the image leans into contrast and texture—stone fractured by centuries, sky bleached to haze, and sand softened into quiet gradients. Every element becomes essential, stripped to form and shadow.
Printed using archival dye-sublimation on brushed aluminum, the photograph carries a refined luminosity. The brushed surface gives the grayscale a silvery, shifting quality, where light itself becomes part of the composition—a slow-moving echo across metal and memory.
Monument is part of a series exploring landscapes as silent witnesses—where architecture, erosion, and the passage of small figures reveal the scale of time, and the subtle persistence of presence.
